In February of 2025 my husband and I experienced an adoption with Gundogz Rescue. The gist of it went like this…Gundogz Rescue matched us up with Scout who was being fostered in Oregon. We live in Michigan. Yet within a few days, Scout was making his cross country journey to his new forever home, all thanks to a volunteer. Seven months later and we can’t imagine life without Scout. I knew I wanted to pay it forward to the rescue, another dog, and another family. So when Pat with Gundogz Rescue was looking for a volunteer to transport Jack from Ohio to his new home in Minnesota, I told my brother he was coming on a road trip with me…a 1,900 mile road trip to deliver a dog who had no idea how his life was about to change! Jack spent the first four years of his life hunting with his person, but after his person passed away, he then spent the next three years living in an outdoor kennel. Transporting Jack was probably the most rewarding thing I have ever done. I just can’t get over how much my own Gundogz Rescue dog Scout has blossomed into a real dog after living in a kennel before we adopted him, and I know that Jack is realizing day by day in his new home that he too gets to be a real dog again doing what he loves with people that love him. After adopting our dog, I felt like the least I could do was pay it forward for another dog, and it turned out by simply heading out on a little road trip, we changed the world for Jack and his new family.
